Summer Season Opening and Closing

Summer Season Opening and Closing

Start of the Season:

The counselors are responsible for opening and outfitting the Den, the pool, the Casino, and the beach for the season. Counselor keys for all areas are required; check for these. Complete the following jobs prior to Opening Day:

The Den: Remove and check all bikes for flat tires and repairs. Clean the bikes and put them in the garage in the back of the Clubhouse. Thoroughly clean the Den, with the assistance of the HBRA cleaning staff. Check and organize all games and craft supplies; and replace as necessary.

Games and Activities: Check, repair, and replace any items needed for Afternoon Rec games and activities. These might include: badminton racquets and shuttlecocks; volleyball net and balls; shuffleboard sticks and pucks; tennis racquets and balls; golf putters and balls; scoreboards for tournaments; wiffleball bats and balls; soccer balls; frisbees; etc.

The Pool: Check, clean, repair and replace as necessary all pool furniture, pool toys, and pool maintenance equipment. Clean out the pool deck gutters and vacuum the pool. Charles Schwartz, our resort Maintenance Manager, can help train the counselors on the maintenance of the pool, including the water levels, pool heater, and pump room.

The Casino: Remove, check, and clean the outdoor furniture, and set it up on the outside pool deck (also known as 'The Riviera').

The Beach: Take out, check, clean, repair, and replace as necessary all sails, masts, booms, life jackets, skis, and other beach equipment. Take out and set up all trash cans, picnic tables, and the volleyball net. Clean out and sanitize the Kiddie Pool with a bleach/water solution. The ENTIRE beach should be raked and cleaned to remove any debris, especially any glass or other sharp objects. Check for and remove any weeds or unwanted vegetation. Check for and mark any large, submerged rocks with floating jugs anchored with bricks. Also mark the wooden shipwreck at the south end of the harbor.

Safety Note: Resort motorboats are to be operated by counselors ONLY.

End of the Season:

At the end of the season, activity at the resort begins to slow down. During the last week, and immediately after Closing Day, the counselors and other HBRA staff are responsible for cleaning their areas of responsibility and storing all resort equipment. The Manager will direct all closing duties.
